Department of Civil Rights

The responsibilities of the Department of Civil Rights include family and children's affairs, the Icelandic National Church, religious organizations and groups following non-religious life stance , registration of individuals and legal residence, passports and ID cards, lottery and gambling matters and data protection. The department drafts legislation and amendments to laws and rules based upon them, provides direction and information for other public authorities and citizens, as well as handling a wide variety of administrative tasks included in its functions.
