UPR 51 - The Federal States of Micronesia

Mr. President,

Iceland welcomes the delegation of the Federal States of Micronesia and its national report.

In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:

1. Ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR.
2. Criminalize all forms of gender-based violence, including marital rape.
3. Improve the capacity of the child protection system to prevent and respond to child abuse, child marriage and child labor.
4. Decriminalize and legalize abortion in all circumstances.
5. Adopt comprehensive anti-discrimination and labor legislation that guarantees equal pay for equal work.
6. Legalize same sex marriage of consenting adults.
7. Adopt a comprehensive national anti-discrimination law that explicitly covers SOGIESC as prohibited grounds of discrimination.
