Statement by Iceland

Thank you vice President,

Iceland welcomes the delegation of the Solomon Islands and its national report.

In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:

1. Ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR.
2. Adopt a comprehensive law on gender-based violence and ensure that survivors have adequate access to medical, psychological, and legal assistance.
3. Raise the minimum age of marriage to 18 years without exception.
4. Ensure universal access to comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in and out of school settings.
5. Decriminalize and legalize abortion in all circumstances and guarantee universal access to safe abortion services.
6. Adopt comprehensive anti-discrimination legislation that explicitly prohibits discrimination against persons of diverse SOGIESC.
7. Decriminalize same sex relations between consenting adults.
